I haven’t updated in 6 years? holy shit! I guess that seems right. For the last 4-5 years my creative inspiration has brought me to autosports and martial arts. How are those even related to creativity you might ask. In more ways than you might guess. All of my “hobbies” are creative outlets. Photography, well that’s self explanatory. How is racing creative? Well, you literally have to create your perfect line to get you around the track. 13, 16 however many turns on the track I’m at requires a deep mental concentration. A coming together of perfect timing of vision, acceleration, deceleration and lots of balls. Once you’ve driven or watched a seasoned driver there’s no doubt it’s an art. Same goes for martial “arts”. Hell ART is in the name. That should also be self explanatory. With martial arts it’s almost the exact same as driving. timing, speed, and figuring out the best path to beat your opponent all the while playing a game of chess in your head. Anyways, I digress.

So it’s probably been almost 6 years since i’ve taken on a legitimate shoot to this capacity. I haven broken out my strobes in all this time and I was surprised they still fired. I only used two for this shoot, but wish I had a third. I did actually but the power supply broke. modifiers, nothing fancy. 1 parabolic umbrella as the key and 1 shoot thru. 1 more back light would have set the images off nicely.

I met this fella at the track in New Orleans. I think we both came up as driving instructors at the same time to be exact. Awesome guy, excellent driver.

As a new edition to the photography coverage for the AFL New Orleans Voodoo team, I captured the season opener this past Sunday. If you’ve never witnessed an Arena Football game, you can expect a lot of face paced action due to the shortened field of play AFL league rules. Here’s a few of the shots from Sunday’s contest.

Shot two male athletes last weekend, both shoots focusing on their careers OUTSIDE of their given sport! This is one of the reasons I started Proathletic photo, to help promote athletes in another aspect of their life off the field, track, ring or stage.

1st shoot was with 19 year old college track athlete. An all state competitive highschool track star, John Inniger was slightly sidelined due to an injury but is predicted to make a name for himself on the college track soon!

Sunday’s shoot, I again got to work with American EFX Athlete and Champion Natural Bodybuilder Johnathan Johnson. JJ juggles bootcamps, personal training, bodybuilding competitions, acting and being a great husband and father! We got a few standard headshot acting portraits, but then things got a little…crazy…

New Orleans Voodoo – Preauxs vs. Jeauxs – charity flag football event

As a new member of the New Orleans Voodoo photographer coverage team for the 2013 season, I had the pleasure to grab some snapshots of this years Preauxs vs. Jeauxs charity flag football games. The event took place at the Pan American Stadium this past saturday, Jan 19th. The charity benefit was hosted by the New Orleans Voodoo along with Ameriprise Financial to raise money for the local Miracle League which helps to offer the chance for disabled children to participate in recreational sports activities.

The day consisted of 3 games – New Orleans Voodoo Dolls team vs an Ameriprise team, 2 teams of Miracle League participants and finally a 7 man team of Voodoo players against an Ameriprise team! Here are a few shots from that day!

And don’t forget, the AFL season kicks off in New Orleans on March 24th against the Orlando Predators in the New Orleans Arena. Check out the Voodoo Website for the full schedule of games.

Fitness and Sports Network (FAS-NET) is a wellness and sports production company. Founded in 2006, the company’s focus lies in the realm of entertainment education for fitness/sports professionals and wellness information.

I’m going to back track a little bit here to a shoot from last year. If you’ve followed my other blog or Facebook, you’ve probably read about this great company and seen most of these pictures. But for those new to my work and you’re an athlete, you may find this info useful!

Fast-Net’s FMI Event’s are put together and designed as workshops to help educate athletes into successfully promoting themselves as fitness model and/or any type of sports personality. Usually consisting of a 2-3 day workshop, the weekend event brings together tops speakers and successful spokesmodel’s to help educate and prepare attending individuals on establishing themselves as a recognizable name in their respective industry. During the event, there is also a day dedicated to working with professional photographers to obtain images for their own portfolio use.

When Universal Animal supplements athlete Garret Gunz needed some promo videos for Animal, he came to PROAP to see what we can do. Although PROAP specializes in photography, it’s slowly venturing into the video market as well. With Animal’s somewhat philosophy of keeping it RAW and REAL, it made our job easier! Below, Garrett briefly explains his Animal supplement regiment and then takes us through one of his typical chest day workouts as he prepares for the Invitational meet only, USPA LA Fit Expo in Los Angles 7 weeks away. Video was shot this past Wednesday where he trains, Jake Impastato’s 504 Fitness in New Orleans, LA. (you’ll also see Jake personally spotting Garrett through his heavy lifts)

Velocity Sports Performance Cover shoot

First off, Welcome to the new ProAthleticPhoto website portfolio and blog. Although this is this sites first blog entry, many of the portfolio shots have been done over the course of the last few years! For some of you who are new to my photography work, I may even go back and blog about some of the older shoots which I’m fond of! But for now, Let’s talk about Velocity Sports Performance and MetroFitness cover model this month – Delvin “Chip” Breaux!

MetroFitness – December. Delvin “Chip” Breaux – Cornerback New Orleans Voodoo

Signed letter of intent and ready to be enrolled as one of LSU’s next defensive playmaker, Delvin unexpectedly suffered a near fatal injury during a routine kickoff for his former high school team McDonogh 35. A simple every day tackle went terribly wrong and Delvin suffered a broken c4, c5 and c6 vertebrae. The doctors were surprised he lived through the incident. Hopes of playing football again after a broken Vertebrae? Odds weren’t looking good. But Chip wanted to prove everyone wrong, and in nine months he did what the doctors said would take no less than 2 years. He was fully rehabilitated, and cleared for football once again. Although there were missed opportunities now for playing with LSU, we fast foward and find him as the signed Corner Back for the New Orleans Arena football team, The New Orleans Voodoo!

So where does Chip keep in shape and his skills honed for the field? Velocity Sports Performance of New Orleans. Not only is Velocity a full service gym for the average health enthusiast, but it also boasts an Olympic style weight room and indoor practice field to cater to the elite athletes. You can read up more about Velocity sports in this months issue of MetroFitness Magazine.

In addition to Chip, I was able to shoot another athlete to watch out for and showcased in the article (Sled pull), Korey Williams. An all American from Southern Miss, he missed his senior year due to a torn acl yet his skills still got him noticed and picked up by the NY Giants. Unfortunately slow healing of his injury caused an early release, but his work ethic and training support from Ian Ott of Velocity Sports Performance is making his come back to a harder and stronger version of his pre-injury self achievable. With an NFL PRO day looming, he’s sure to be picked up again and ready for Sunday football!
